Blackfin DSP have been in the past 15 years and ARM also there little more in terms of number of years. These days, IoT devices does not requires good Display or good GUI. All that it requires is good and fast interface with Sensors and collect data from sensors. Issue is much more then collecting data. If only Data collection then even simple micro controllers can do some extent. But there is need to
1) Collect data from Sensors ( many of them via different channel)
2) Process collected data ( here is Digital Signal Processing algorithms comes in to play)
3) Store processed decision or communicate processed data to Gateway
4) communicating to gateway requires wireless link( BT, NFC, Zig-bee Z-wave, Wi-Fi custom made modem etc)
5) Connect with control unit at device such that controlling also taken care.
Item 4 in the above provide information on Wire-less link. Is it required to have all these communication software runs on Blackfin IC to qualify the same as Universal Connector. By being universal connector , does it automatically qualify it as IoT device...
I am sure many of you can think much better and also possibly provide clear direction for the above...
Guys like me who have been Blackfin and SHARC fan, all up a sudden feel Very good to hear about Emerging IoT opportunities.
