Re: GNU Radio 3.7 drivers for AD-FMCOMMS1-EBZ

While I know a few non-ADI people are working on it, I don't think it's fully supported/done yet.

Like any system - there are multiple layers. ADI has created, and maintains Linux IIO (Industrial Input/Output) drivers for all the devices on the FMComms1 and the AD9361 (found on the AD-FMComms2 and 3). This provides a stable interface from userspace to kernel/devices.

What is lacking is a GNURadio source/sink that understands IIO.

I think the people who were working on that part were hoping to use an updated userspace library that we are working on. The goal is to provide a userspace abstraction that is independent of connection type (native or ethernet). What we have today (from a userspace library, works - but is showing it's lack of proper architecture when we started, since we didn't know what we really needed to do). The interface over ethernet is 100% different than the native data interface.

Remember that IIO is much more than just the RF platforms we are working on - it spans everything from motor control to gyros to temp sensors - the userspace libraries we are working on is a little more generic in nature. but the folks who were working on the GNU Radio portions wanted to be abstract - so they could use the FMComms platforms (1/2/3) as a pipe over ethernet (fabric only solutions), as well as native on Zynq.

I think in a few months we will have a much more complete story on this side.
